چکیده

BACKGROUND Evaluate the performance of the Focalpoint system in identifying and classifying cervical cytology alterations from samples collected from patients treated with Radiotherapy (RT). METHODS The reproducibility of manual and automated screening by cytotechnologists using the BD Focalpoint GS Imaging System was examined. Samples were collected from May 2010 to August 2011. RESULTS A total of 378 treated with RT and 8,967 cytology samples from patients without previous RT, were evaluated. The kappa values for cytological diagnoses read manually and automated in cases without previous RT were as follows: < ASC-H vs. ≥ ASC-H = 0.71; < LSIL vs. ≥ LSIL = 0.66; and < HSIL vs. ≥ HSIL = 0.67. The kappa for cytological diagnoses in post-RT women have showed: < ASC-H vs. ≥ ASC-H = 0.71; < LSIL vs. ≥ LSIL = 0.65; < HSIL vs. ≥ HSIL = 0.57. CONCLUSIONS There was no significant difference among the kappa values we found. Post-RT cytology showed small diagnostic agreement between manual and automated examination. Performance and reproducibility of gynecologic cytology interpretation using the FocalPoint system: results of the RODEO Study Team.

OBJECTIVES To assess whether automated screening in the cytologic examination of Papanicolaou smear slides results in smaller margins of error than manual screening. METHODS We compared cytotechnologists' performance and reproducibility of manual and automated screening of 10,165 consecutive cervical cytology slides examined at Barretos Cancer Hospital using the FocalPoint system. RESULTS I...

Comparison of radiotherapy techniques to reduce hematologic toxicity in whole pelvic radiation therapy

Introduction: Concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CRT) is a standard treatment method for patients with carcinoma of cervix. Despite admirable therapeutic results, acute hematologic toxicity (HT) is common with this regimen. Many studies evaluate the relationship between the bone marrow dosimetric parameters and the severity of HT and result shown that the low dose of bone marrow wou...

Assessment of Olfactory Threshold in Patients Undergoing Radiotherapy for Head and Neck Malignancies

Introduction: Radiotherapy is a common treatment modality for patients with head and neck malignancies. As the nose lies within the field of radiotherapy of the head and neck, the olfactory fibers and olfactory receptors may be affected by radiation. The aim of this study was to evaluate changes in olfactory threshold in patients with head and neck malignancies who have received radiation to th...

Background and Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the screening performance of a new modified liquid-based cytology method (Liquiprep™) with conventional PAP smear (CP) in a low risk population, using colposcopy followed by histology as “gold standard”. Patients and Methods:  This cross-sectional study was performed on random referred specimens to a general gynecological clinic...

Point Dose Measurement for Verification of Treatment Planning System using an Indigenous Heterogeneous Pelvis Phantom for Clarkson, Convolution, Superposition, and Fast Superposition Algorithms

Background: Nowadays, advanced radiotherapy equipment includes algorithms to calculate dose. The verification of the calculated doses is important to achieve accurate results. Mostly homogeneous dosimetric phantoms are available commercially which do not mimic the actual patient anatomy; therefore, an indigenous heterogeneous pelvic phantom mimicking actual human pelvic region has been used to ...
